Abstract: Reliability and Robustness in Grid Computing Systems

This session will focus on the question of how future grid computing systems that implement emerging Web Services and Grid standards can achieve levels of reliability required for critical enterprise applications. Two considerations merit special attention. First, the scale of grid computing systems is expected to grow dramatically as grid technology transitions to industrial use. Second, operational grid systems are likely to be subjected to volatile and uncertain conditions that potentially endanger or severely degrade their effectiveness in everyday use.
Large-scale grid systems will need to detect and overcome failures in order to provide a level of reliability and robustness needed for industrial and scientific purposes. This BOF originally met at GGF12 and is reconvening to develop a program of work that will address these issues.
