Community Activity: Grid
Requirements, Roadmaps, and Use Cases
Thursday, 06-October 11:00a – 3:30p
Organizers: Prof. Geoffrey Fox, Indiana University and Craig Lee,
The Aerospace Corporation
The GGF Community Council is organizing a workshop
at GGF-15 on Grid Requirements, Technology Roadmaps, and Use Cases.
Use cases are an established part of the standards process used
to define the essential motivations for a particular standard. It
has become clear, however, that use cases can be relevant to many
different technical areas within a large field such as grid computing.
Moreover, important knowledge about fundamental requirements can
be extracted by looking across many use cases. Understanding fundamental
requirements is necessary to define technology roadmaps that are
used, in turn, to define the investment of resources for the further
development. This argues for the organized management and exploitation
of use case information.
Hence, this workshop seeks short presentations on requirements,
technology roadmaps, and use cases for significant grid projects,
e.g., institutional, national and international projects. Specific
topics of interest include (but are not limited to):
· Driving requirements for large projects
· Cross-domain requirements, e.g., science, telecom, finance,
pharmaceuticals, homeland security, defense
· Requirements schemas, representations
· Requirements databases
· Use case repositories
. Use case data mining

How to identify and manage grid requirements acrossmany projects
and use them to define Technology Roadmaps, i.e., the investment
of resources for further development.
