Managing IPR for educational repositories: draft document review

This session will present a recommendations document on the issues related to Intellectual property management for grid training and education materials and services. This document has been developed at the successful sessions at OGF 19 through 21. In this session the draft document will be presented for final feedback and review, before proceeding to the document publishing stage.
As the amount of materials and the services available to support remote learning about and using grids increases and matures, it is clear that one of the most important bottlenecks affecting our ability to share training and educational materials and services is the clarification of policies and mechanisms for IPR management. Much of this material and effort is derived from the activities of academics. While individual projects may have clear policies for re-use and dissemination of materials created specifically for that project; in general higher education institutions (which own all of the output of their academic staff) are currently investigating the implications of distributed technologies for their business models.
The development of recommendations in this area is therefore extremely timely as it can be used to feed into the policy development process of institutions, and also national and international bodies to support the cooperative efforts which have already developed in this area.
The expected outcome of this session is an agreed publishable draft submission on IPR issues for Grid Training and Education to include
1. Recommendations on the existing standards which should be supported
2. Recommendations on where standards need to be developed or extended
3. Policy recommendations to institutions, national and international bodies
