What OGF Can Do for Enterprises (A View from the CIO Office) (60 mins)
Charlie Catlett

OGF and its predecessors have evolved over the past several years in terms of both who are the customers and how many customer communities can be effectively served. Catlett will speak about the needs of three communities from a first-hand perspective: scientists and engineers using distributed infrastructure, multi-institutional grid
service providers, and large campus (university or laboratory) service providers. These requirements, and most importantly their intersection, provide a rich set of areas for OGF to contribute to information technology today. The term "Grid" is rarely precisely defined among these communities, but the purpose of OGF - and its opportunities to impact information technology - transcends terminology. Even when it comes to OGF's middle name.
Charlie founded the Global Grid Forum (predecessor to OGF) and is currently the CIO of Argonne National Laboratory, Director of Argonne's Computing and Information Systems Division, and a Senior Fellow at the Argonne/University of Chicago Computation Institute. As CIO of Argonne, Charlie will bring unique perspectives on operating a world-class data center while providing leading-edge technology solutions to computational scientists.
