This specification adoption workshop presents experiences of how the work of the OGF groups has had an impact on end-user projects by showcasing the use of software developed by the OMII-UK and OMII-Europe in different domains.
We will discuss the benefit of specifications in the areas of job submission, data access, security, accounting and portals and consider specifications such as OGSA-BES, HPC Basic Profile, JSDL, SAGA, WS-DAI, OGSA-ByteIO, RNS, WS-Naming, RUS, OGSA-AuthZ and WSRF.
We aim to provide answers to the question of what benefits are gained through the adoption of specifications and contribution to the OGF community.
OMII-UK is a UK consortium which provides software and support to enable a sustained future for the UK e-Science community and its international collaborators. It has developed and supported a number of implementations of OGF and related specifications including OGSA-BES, HPC Basic Profile, JSDL, SAGA, WS-DAI, OGSA-ByteIO, RNS, WS-Naming, RUS, OGSA-AuthZ, WSRF and UDDI. OMII-UK have also worked with many projects both in the UK and internationally which have used software based on or inspired by work originated in OGF.
OMII-Europe is a European Commission funded project which developed interoperable implementations of several core functional components of Grids based on OGF specifications, including job submission, data access, security, accounting and portals. These implementations have been taken up by several European projects which have been running on European infrastructures such as EGEE, DEISA and D-Grid.
This session will showcase the impact that the use of OGF specifications in implementations from OMII-UK and OMII-Europe has had on people using the software in projects.
