BEinGRID: Does a Grid Marketplace Exist?
(90 mins)
Geleyn Meijer (Logica)
Much attention is paid to the market for Grid products, and of ways to improve and stimulate those markets. In this session we take a look at the way those goods and services are traded and whether commercial pressures will lead to the evolution of a marketplace where such products are discovered, negotiated and provisioned – the rise of a Grid buyer-seller intermediary. Josep Martrat and Daniel Field from Atos Origin will discuss their work into this field in the context of Gridipedia, set up by BEinGRID, IBM’s Cor Van der Struijf will give his perspective from the stand point of a Grid vendor and Avner Algom will explain his experiences leading an organization aiming to encourage the growth of the sector in general.
Agenda:
Josep Martrat and Daniel Field

“IBM's view on the Grid Computing marketplace: Every cloud has a blue lining
Organizations are interested in simplifying their IT infrastructure and lower their costs. Grid Computing is promising a way of achieving these goals while Grid Computing has reached the point to be deployed at commercial organizations. Real life IBM customer examples will give you an insight if a Grid computing marketplace exists.

"How to stimulate the industry adoption of Grid based solutions – the IGT experience"
The Israeli Association of Grid Technologies (IGT) www.grid.org.il - is a non-profit organization of leading vendors, ISVs, customers and academia, focused on knowledge sharing and networking for developing Enterprise Grid, Virtualization and SOA solutions. It is open, independent and vendor-neutral. The IGT creates business and technologies opportunities by providing frameworks of conferences, work groups, training, a Grid lab and a WEB knowledge center for business and technology networking. As such, the IGT provides a meeting place in which organizations are learning from each other about open source and commercial Grid products and solutions. The IGT Grid Lab provides its ISVs members with an infrastructure for Grid R&D activities.
Based on 4 years of experience, I will present the IGT operation model and its contributions for the adoption of Grid based solutions in the industry.
