OGF-Europe Tutorial: Managing Computational Activities on the Grid - from Specifications to Implementation (3/3) (90 mins)
Aleksandr Konstantinov, Balazs Konya, Gabor Roczei, Morris Riedel, Sergio Andreozzi
View Participants

Current and upcoming OGF standards have made the interoperable submission, monitoring and controlling of computational activities in Grid systems a feature of Grid middleware.

Tutorial participants will gain new knowledge on a series of key specifications: BES (Basic Execution Service), JSDL (Job Submission Description Language), HPC Extensions (High-Performance Computing), GLUE (an information model for Grid resources, advanced draft).

Participants will learn about the on-going implementation work by three leading European middleware providers: ARC, gLite, UNICORE

Specific takeaways include insight into BES, JSDL, HPC extensions and GLUE standards, application scenarios, design choices and technical challenges for the transition from specifications to implementation.

Target audience: Grid developers and Grid advanced end-users

Agenda:
- Limitations and gaps - 15' - (M. Riedel)
-- What is missing for real-world scenarios
- Security aspects - 15' - (M. Riedel)
- Exercises - 45'
-- Job submission to ARC-BES and UNICORE-BES (G. Roczei)
-- GLUE (S. Andreozzii / B. Konya)
- Final discussion - 15'
