This specification adoption workshop presents experiences of how the work of the OGF groups has contributed to software commissioned by OMII-UK, and how development is progressing from adoption of open specifications to a process of open development. We will discuss the benefit of specifications in the area of job submission, and consider specifications such as OGSA-BES, HPC Basic Profile, JSDL and SAGA.
OMII-UK is a UK consortium which provides software and support to enable a sustained future for the UK e-Science community and its international collaborators. It has developed and supported a number of implementations of OGF and related specifications including OGSA-BES, HPC Basic Profile, JSDL, SAGA, WS-DAI, OGSA-ByteIO, RNS, WS-Naming, RUS, OGSA-AuthZ, WSRF and UDDI. OMII-UK have also worked with many projects both in the UK and internationally which have used software based on or inspired by work originated in OGF.
This session will demonstrate how OGF specifications have been adopted across implementations from OMII-UK, and highlight how collaborations with Asia-Pacific institutions have created new opportunities to address identified user software needs. This session will also illustrate how OMII-UK is actively developing sustainable communities around products that use these specifications. One of these products is GridSAM, which is being collaboratively developed between five organizations in the UK and China.
