TeraGrid by Charlie Catlett, USA - TeraGrid is a national cyberinfrastructure facility that integrates high- performance resources and services to enable scientific discovery. TeraGrid partners provide over 90 TF of computational capacity and over 3 PB of online disk, interconnected with a dedicated optical network that supports connections of 10-30 Gb/s to eight resource provider sites. User access to TeraGrid is by peer review, with over 1700 users today spanning most scientific disciplines. TeraGrid's coordinated software infrastructure includes the Globus Toolkit (GT4, providing Web services), Condor-G, and other middleware components such as TeraGrid's distributed accounting system. In 2005 NSF funded a five-year program to operate and enhance TeraGrid's software and services, and concurrently initiated a multi-year investment program to grow the capability of the TeraGrid to provide petaflops-scale services in the same timeframe.
Victor Alessandrini, IDRIS-CNRS, DEISA director
The current status of the DEISA research infrastructure is discussed, with emphasis on the strategy for services and applications deployment. An overview of the planned evolution in 2006 - 2008 is presented.
The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) and the NorduGrid by Dr. Balazs Konya, Technical Coordinator of the NorduGrid Collaboration, Lund University, Sweden - The Advanced Resource Connector (ARC) or the "NorduGrid middleware" is an open source software solution enabling productio quality computational and data Grids. Since its first release (May 2002), the middleware is deployed and being used in production envionments and special emphasis is put on scalability , stability, reliability and performance. A growing number of Grid deployments (Swegrid, Swiss Atlas Grid, M-Grid of Finland, NDGF, etc.) chose ARC as their middleware, thus expanding one of the largest production Grids of the world, the ARC-connected NorduGrid. The talk will introduce the Advanced Resource Connector and the production NorduGrid setup harnessing the capabilities of the ARC middleware. Interoperability issues and the relation of ARC to the emerging Grid standards will also be addressed.
APGrid by Yoshio Tanaka (AIST/PRAGMA) - Pacific Rim Grid Applications and Middleware Assembly (PRAGMA) established an experimental global Grid testbed and ran multiple applications simultaneously on a routine basis. This experiment allowed us to learn issues involved in building an easy-to-use production global Grid. This talk gives an overview of and lessons learned from the PRAGMA routine-basis experiment.
"Towards Production Grids in Greenfield Regions" by Dr. Ognjen Prnjat, European & Regional Grid Management, GRNET S.A. - This talk will focus on issues regarding setting up Grids in greenfield regions. In this context, the advantage of the less-experienced regions is that they can benefit from developing a production Grid management infrastructure which is not tied to the legacy systems, thus having as primary factors scalability, availability and flexibility. The talk will present distributed model for Grid management across administrative and technological domains, developed for the EGEE infrastructure in South-East Europe. The same model with minor modifications has been adapted to the countries of the Western Balkans, in the context of the EC-sponsored SEE-GRID project. Similar approach will be deployed in the EC-sponsored EUChinaGrid and EUMEDGRID projects.
