The 17th Global Grid Forum - GGF17
May 10-12, 2006
Tokyo, Japan

1:45 pm - 3:15 pm
Workshop on Data Access and Integration (1/2)
(90 mins)
Isao Kojima, Neil Chue Hong
View Participants
The Grid provides us with the ability to create a vastly different
model of data integration and management allowing support for dynamic,
late-binding access to distributed, heterogenous data resources;
diverse replication capabilities; and integration of legacy storage
systems. However the opportunities to exploit these new methods of
data integration also produce many issues and open questions.
This workshop will bring together leading eScience projects, working
on solving data management problems using Grid techniques and
technologies. It aims to present and disseminate the current status of
grid data integration and management and allow the identification of
common issues and gaps.
The workshop is intended to be about community building and standards
consolidation / preparation. There is a very active DAI community in
Japan, many of whom we hope to engage with the work on DAI at GGF and
the current DAIS standards recommendations. We also hope to use the
occasion to draw attention to the work underway on an RDF development
of the DAIS standards, and to collect experience and requirements i
nformation that might influence future standards development.
This workshop is intended as a targeted follow-on from the "The Future
of Grid Data Environments" workshop held at GGF10:
