Preservation Environments based on Data Grids (60 mins)

Multiple internation communities are developing preservation environments that are based on data grid technology. In support of these efforts, a GGF document is in review titled "Long-Term Digital Archive Requirements". We will present implementations of preservation environments across these communities, and discuss demonstrations of interoperability between preservation environments.
We will identify preservation environments that are being built in Europe, the UK, the US, and the Far East, and discuss how these projects can profit from interoperability demonstrations. A preservation facility is successful if it is possible to migrate the preserved records into another preservation facility without loss of authenticity or integrity. The results of NSF funded workshops on preservation will be provided, as well as an introduction to the concepts behind preservation environment. We will close with a discussion of the management policies required for preservation, and how these can be implemented using data grid technology. The assertion of consistency and completness properties within a data management system is a major research topic within the grid community.
Agenda:
30 minutes - Presentation on Preservation concepts for interoperability
30 minutes - Discussion of preservation environments based on data grids
30 minutes - Discussion of preservation interoperability demonstrations (including how to build upon the GGF Interoperability demonstrations for data grids)
