Towards Data Grid Standards (GFS Community Update) (90 mins)
(GFS-WG)  Group Discussion
View Participants

The need for Grid File Systems have been felt in academia and global enterprises. The need for standardization on this space can be felt from various academic communities working on astrology, bio-informatics and equally from Global 2000 companies that operate on multiple countries.

The requirements are:
- Collaboration: Global Namespace of all files and other data in a collaborative enterprise
- Data Classification: Ability to attach metadata to organize unstructured data
- Data Discovery: Ability to query the large amount of data.
- Scalability: Scalability in terms of distribution of the sites where data is stored or access and scalability in terms of the volume of the data to be managed.

Clearly a community driven standard development is needed. This session will focus on the architecture, the problems to be solved in realizing a OGF GFS standard that can lay the foundation for data grid management systems (DGMS).
