GGF Events Go Global in 2006

Events span three continents

With the wrap-up of GridWorld/GGF15 in October, the sights now turn to 2006 GGF events. True to its "global" reach, GGF will hold major events in Europe, Asia, and North America next year.

From February 13-16, GGF will gather in Athens, Greece for its sixteenth event emphasizing the standards development activities of the forum. With over 60 group sessions planned, GGF groups will look to build on a highly productive year in 2005 which has seen 10 new documents published in the first 10 months with an additional 15 in the "pipeline" to be published before the end of the year. In addition to these group sessions, the event will also offer technical presentations as part of GGF's community program including regional updates organized by our gracious event host, the Greek Research and Technology Network (GRNET). Just three months later, GGF will again gather in Tokyo, Japan for GGF17, co-located with the Grid World Expo on May 11-12. From May 10-12, GGF will hold groups sessions and a community program emphasizing innovations in grid technologies. GGF participants can also attend the Grid World exhibit hall and program, locally organized by the Grid Consortium Japan, a sponsor member of GGF.

Finally, on September 11-14, GGF will team with IDG World Expo and GlobusWorld to hold its second GridWorld event. This event, planned for a Washington DC venue, will host GGF standards activities, its growing technical community program, and an enterprise-focused program. New to GridWorld in 2006 will be several technical update sessions and tutorials on the Globus Toolkit. Open source and product/solution providers will participate in the enlarged exhibit hall planned for this event.

Finally, look for the introduction of interoperability "plug-fests" during GGF event in 2006. These activities will showcase the adoption of several GGF specifications in software solutions available to grid managers and end-users.
