Global Grid Forum - Directions 2005

GGF is changing and growing as the grid moves from vision to practical reality over the next few years. At our GGF13 event in Seoul, a comprehensive proposal was discussed outlining how GGF in partnership with our international community can increase our global leadership and improve the way in which we communicate, collaborate, and operate. The proposal is currently undergoing community public review, comment, and additional refinement.

Our strategic work and community discussions re-affirmed the mission of GGF to “lead the pervasive adoption of grid computing for research and industry”. The GGF mission is enabled by a three-fold focus on community and standards supported by efficient operations.

Community Involvement – The “power of we”: In order to pursue our mission of pervasive adoption for research and industry, GGF will continue to foster and manage unique communities of interest. This broad involvement from research, academia, and industry results in well understood requirements leading to high quality standards and a growing knowledge base of use cases and best practices.

Standards – accelerating interoperability: A critical component of the GGF mission is to define grid specifications that lead to broadly adopted standards and interoperable software. During 2005 we are actively working to clarify the standards landscape and provide specifications and roadmap information to our community. This requires an increased emphasis on communication, continued productivity from GGF groups and increased liaison activities with other standards organizations.

Operations Efficiency – “supporting and communicating our mission”: Finally, our mission is supported and communicated through efficient, effective, operations. During 2005, we will continue to improve the way in which we communicate GGF value to our community, key partners, sponsors, industry analysts and press, while ensuring funding to accomplish our mission.
