The GGF web site (ggf.org)
is a critical communication vehicle for our international community.
With the recent launch of a newly designed website, Steve Crumb,
Executive Director of GGF, believes the web site will enhance GGF’s
ability to communicate its mission and the progress of its groups
and communities.
“Our previous GGF web site was difficult to
navigate and did not effectively communicate the tremendous progress
the GGF community has made over the last five years”, remarked
Mr. Crumb. “Our new site is one of several steps we are taking
in 2005 to more effectively communicate with our community and the
industry at large.”
At the outset, GGF had four design principles in mind:
• Simplify content, navigation, and maintenance
• Highlight the progress of GGF
• Encourage greater GGF community interaction
• Increase the visibility of our sponsors.
The new GGF web site is designed to be easier to navigate
with an emphasis on simplicity. “We wanted a site that was
simple but effective – and a design that we could build on
based on user feedback”, said Mr. Crumb. “Our approach
should allow us to quickly add additional features and content most
relevant to our community needs.”
This website update is one of several steps GGF is
taking to enhance its communication both inside and outside the
grid community. GGF recently engaged Bridgeman Communications as
its media relations firm to broaden its reach in the press and analyst
communities. GGF has also begun a project to enhance the usability
of the GridForge tool, where GGF working groups and research groups
collaborate on grid specifications and best practices.
“We have quite a lot of work to do to make GGF
friendly to site visitors, group participants, and the media”,
Crumb stated, “but this website is a good first step and one
I hope the community will embrace.”
GGF welcomes the feedback from site visitors and users.
