[sem-grd] Re: IST2004 networking session this afternoon

Hello

We had a very good discussion in the Hague yesterday - thanks to those
of you who were able to come along. We had good attendance (standing
room only), evidently about half "semantic" and half "grid".

The session commenced with opening comments from the two units of the
commission, then Dieter Fensel spoke about Semantic Web Services and
I spoke about Semantic Grid. Our talks showed agreement about the
potential role of semantic web services in the grid. In some other
respects they were contrasting - e.g. I think I came across as
a bit of a "scruffy" :)

After this we had a question and answer session. Questions included
topics such as:

- the overhead of semantic approach, won't community just adopt XML
- when will this functionality will be available to the everday citizen
- does working with MPEG7 metadata counts as semantic web
- ontologies for GT4
- accounting and payment
- privacy
- semantic grid in public adminsitration

My slides are online. I understand that there will be a report on the
event that will be made available in due course, and I'll make sure this
is advertised on this list.

If anyone who was there wishes to add anything, please do - I'd be
happy to see the discussion continue on this list.

Thanks

-- Dave
